Our Story

Our Story

Once upon a time, in the wonderful chaos of Brooklyn, Collette and Jason crossed paths through a mutual friend—a slow-burning connection that simmered with potential. They spent their early days casually hanging out over drinks at their favorite dive bar, Boobie Trap, a place where the drinks were cheap, the vibes were high, and the Motown playlist set the mood. Jason, a man of intriguing ideas, invited Collette over one evening for a JAWS movie marathon—because what’s more romantic than watching a 45-year-old shark terrorize beachgoers, right? Eight years later, they’re still stuck somewhere between JAWS 3 and The Revenge, but that’s the magic of it. Sometimes the best relationships aren’t rushed; they unfold one quirky moment at a time.

As the months turned into years, they discovered even more quirks in common—like a shared love of movies, questionable road trips to Atlantic City, and eventually, their mutual passion for snowboarding. Ah, snowboarding. That’s where the universe had a hand in their romance. They’d planned a trip to Killington, Vermont, inviting some friends to join them. But when the friends bailed last minute, the universe delivered a gift: just the two of them, alone in the snowy mountains. Things went smoothly—until they arrived at the lodge and discovered Collette’s bunk had been forgotten. The solution? A cozy room that, shall we say, was drafty. But who needs warmth when there’s a whole winter wonderland to enjoy? It was in that chilly room, between shared laughter and shared blankets, that they knew this was something special.

Fast forward a few months to April 1, 2017, when the snow wasn’t the only thing falling in Killington. The storm outside perfectly matched the storm of emotions inside—because somewhere between icy slopes and cozy nights, they had fallen in love. Over the years, their love story grew with them: new jobs, pets, and more adventures, from weddings to vacations to surviving the chaos of life. But the question remained: “Is this real, or is it just an elaborate April Fools' prank?”

On April 1, 2023, Jason woke up with his decision. That morning he was staring at Collette, watching her sleep in a decidedly My beautiful girlfriend position (if you know, you know), and realized that “Yep, this is the woman I want to spend my life with.” He couldn’t help it—he was giggling that whole day. Collette asked, “Why are you laughing at me?” he couldn’t quite answer through his fit of giggles and would simply reply “Nothing.” Later that day, after navigating torrential rain and a restaurant that refused to take them in, they finally settled on Roberta’s. Over dinner and cocktails, the rain stopped, and they wandered to Domino Park for a walk. The wind picked up, Collette started saying she was cold just like in that dafty room years ago, and Jason knew it was time. He dropped to one knee, in Domino Park, and asked the question that had been brewing for years.

“Yes!” Collette shouted, her face lighting up brighter than any of the city lights around them. And they celebrated, naturally, in the best way they knew how: a rooftop cocktail, followed by a beer and shot at their beloved dive bar, Turkey’s Nest.

Now, as they plan their wedding—an event destined to be as fun, quirky, and unforgettable as their journey—they know one thing for sure: their love is real, it’s been building for years, and it’s not a prank. They wouldn’t have it any other way. From JAWS marathons to drafty rooms in Vermont to rooftop toasts, they’ve created a story as wonderfully unpredictable as the love they share. And that’s exactly the way they like it.
